| Props & replicas |
[28 Dec 2011|02:25am] |
For Christmas this year I acquired a few props & replicas. (click to embiggen)

From Back to the Future: part II, replicas of the lenticular rainbow hat plus Grays Sports Almanac. The Almanac even came with a replica plastic receipt! I think I'll just leave these lying behind my DeLorean's passenger seat.
I also acquired a collection of screen-used Stargate props. Clockwise, from the top left: Goa’uld mothership wall panel piece, Jaffa armour piece, Replicator block wall piece, actual piece of the Stargate’s Iris, and finally an actual piece of the Stargate itself.

| DeLorean |

I rarely update this thing any more... let's try to change this!
My car arrived & it's gone through all the paperwork to get it road-registered. I figured people would want photos.
So here's my DeLorean. I'm such a nerd. :D

| Rack-a-mole! |
[23 Apr 2011|06:49pm] |
There's been one main part that has been responsible for my DeLorean being so delayed - the modified RHD (Right Hand Drive) steering rack.
It's a few months late but guess what finally arrived at the mechanic's workshop today. :D

One steering rack assembly inside a new, RHD-modified crumple zone! Where possible, anything touched by the RHD conversion is being upgraded to be both stronger & safer than the original car's configuration. The host components were from a RHD Lotus Espirit from the 80's from the UK. The same model car they turned into a submarine in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me... Moves like a fish, handles like a submarine. :p
Given how late it is already, I'm a little scared to make another estimate as to when I think it'll be done. Maybe a month more of work left at DMC NorthWest's current rate, a month in transit, then another month of mechanical work & certification here. But at this point I just want it to be fully finished, registered & on the road by my birthday in August.

| Twenty years..... |
[21 Apr 2011|11:23pm] |
1991, April 21st. It was a Sunday morning. Temperatures that morning were cool but not too chilly, with a temperature around 50'F. A man was sitting at his computer, a Macintosh probably running System Software 6. His last name was Miller. Which one, I don't know. What was he doing before that, I don't know. What he wanted to do at the time, I don't know. But I know what he did do.
At 9:54am that morning, he clicked to create a new HyperCard stack. This stack went through all sorts of changes, but it ended up becoming Myst. This was its inception (much like Atrus's first age).
This is how D'ni time was calculated - this is the epoch, the "Rosetta date", the point where both systems match up *exactly*. I figured I'd be the only person to even realise this anniversary but I thought it shouldn't go un-noted.
Happy D'ni new year, everyone. It just ticked over to Leefo 1st, 9667. 20 years later, what a journey it's been. :D
